What is the difference between the soul and the body? How do we break out of the confines of our own experience? Can we make the threshold between ordinary and non-ordinary reality more porous and more transparent?
These are the questions at the heart of Soul Atlas, a 24-hour live-streamed performance in which artist Charles H. Trapolin inhabits an 8-foot cube, visually documenting his shifting states of consciousness within. Through drawing, painting, storytelling, and embodied awareness, Trapolin creates a living map of perception, exploring the fullness of selfhood and the unseen dimensions of reality.
The cube serves as a powerful symbol—a monad, a windowless room, a metaphor for the conditioned self. Its boundaries represent the mental and perceptual limitations we are taught to accept, the edges of our own internal landscape. Within this space, Trapolin seeks to transcend these confines, mapping not just thought, but intuition, sensation, and non-ordinary states of awareness.
Virtual and Augmented Reality Experience
Upon completion, the interior of the cube will be able to be viewed via VR and AR. While the cube will not be physically accessible to the public, The VR version will allow individuals to view the interior of the cube virtually utilizing VR glasses. The Augmented Reality (AR) version will allow individuals to look through the walls to the interior of the cube utilizing glasses that support AR.
